McDonald's Feel Good Redesign

In 2019, McDonald’s Global introduced the "FeelGood" design principles and a new brand identity. The goal was to incorporate this new identity into the mobile app while also improving consistency across iOS and Android, addressing internationalization thoughtfully, enhancing the user experience of the Loyalty program, ensuring accessibility compliance, and maintaining or increasing deal redemptions during the transition to the new visual design.

I encountered several challenges during the project, like limited budgets for usability testing, which I tackled with in-office guerrilla testing. The app's configurability across markets, with varied flows and minimal documentation, required numerous meetings and detailed development to create proper documentation. Additionally, the team's long-standing processes made it difficult to adopt a more collaborative approach.

Build and Scale Design System for McDonald’s

Building a proper design system that includes notes, rules, behaviour, pure properties, scaling, accessibility, dark mode, and structure. The project had been started because Mcd changed global branding to Feel-Good design, that includes new visual identity principles, new color palette, typography, illustrations etc. The goal was to ensure consistency, efficiency, and quality across building projects.

My Role

Visual Design, Design System, Leadership and Collaborations

I encountered several challenges during the project, including the need to rebuild components from scratch while maintaining their connection to screens to avoid past issues. Clearly documenting component states, behavior, limitations, and scaling for developers was another hurdle. The design system had to be comprehensive, covering all possible scenarios, while ensuring smooth and effective communication with the development team to align on principles and requirements.

AlvaLabs: Building Candidate Assessment Service

In 2019, I joined Alvalabs, an early-stage startup, as the 11th team member and the second designer. I came on board at the start of the platform's active phase, as it began providing services to real clients. During my time at Alvalabs, I designed and developed key features, including the Candidate Test Assessment flow, Candidate Home Page, and the Position Page, which showcased assessment results. I also created the Candidate Comparison Tool, Shortlisted Candidates feature, and the Candidate Role Fit Score Page. By the time I left, Alvalabs had secured investments, expanded its client base, and integrated with major clients like TeamTailor. Today, it stands as a robust service offering a wide range of tools for candidate assessment.

Scale New Brand Identity Across the Product and Develop a Design System

Built a design system from scratch to facilitate a smooth and efficient transition from the old branding to the new one. This included defining rules, behaviors, core properties, scalability, and overall structure. The project was initiated because AlvaLabs established its branding and planned to implement it within the product.

Who is Christina?

Design is a complex process, and you can’t do it solo. I truly believe that achieving "good design" requires a transparent, supportive, and caring team. Of course, it must be clear and accessible for users and solve real-time problems taking into account business, tech and capability parts.

I’m passionate about piecing together all the puzzles—understanding the problem, business goals, team capabilities—to create a complete picture and find the best solutions and steps to get there.

I’m a self-taught designer, born and raised in Minsk, Belarus. My journey began at Epam Systems, where I worked as an Administrative Assistant to the Head of Design and Development. I had the chance to learn from other designers while starting out with internal projects—lots of Photoshop, presentations, and small fixes on the internal portal. Eventually, I was assigned to a billable project, and that’s when I stepped into the mysterious but exciting world of design.

5 years later, I realized I wanted to experience life at a product company, so I joined PandaDoc, a fast-growing B2B company with just 70 people at the time. It was an incredible learning experience where I grew tremendously as a designer. One of my biggest takeaways was the importance of thoughtful solutions and understanding the internal connections within an app.

After 1.5 amazing and fun years, I received an offer from a small early-stage startup in Stockholm, Sweden. It was a scary move, but I was curious to see what it was like working for a European company. I relocated to Stockholm and experienced the contrast between a mid-stage, successful company and a small startup just starting its journey. I designed plenty of ‘Future we Go’ concepts, but on the same time those solutions had to be divided into sequential steps: MVPs and further plan. During this time, I shifted my approach to a more collaborative working style and truly understood the importance of bridging communication gaps between teams.

After two intense years of startup life, filled with fun and COVID challenges, I joined Umain—an agency with a product mindset. I became part of the team working on McDonald’s (GmaLite), responsible for the ordering experience across 60+ countries. I won nomination Rockie of the Year, it was so sweeeeet. And i’m still here, helping millions of people get their favorite food. And yes, I’m lovin’ it!

Along the way, I gave an interview to one of the biggest IT-industry portals in Belarus, Devby.io. If you’re curious about my career journey, you can check it out here.

Outside of work, I’m all about taking time for myself—spa days, hitting the gym to stay strong and flexible, or snowboarding (I’m pretty good, except for catching an edge). I love good wine, cheese, fresh oysters, and perfect scrambled eggs (still perfecting mine). Portugal’s ocean is my ultimate visual and auditory rehab. I also enjoy meeting people and hearing their stories—it’s endlessly fascinating.

That’s a little about me. Let’s connect!
